Guidelines

Issue ChronologyUpcoming Issues
To get your work into Mysterious Visions Anthology, there is a simple procedure to follow. We've hopefully refined our guidelines here to be as easy to follow and understand as possible. You're only a few steps away from getting in!
The Steps:
Of course, there's a little more to it than that, but we'll answer all your questions here on this page, and if we don't, use the link to ask about it on our forum. For creators who are looking for a bit more guidance and perhaps a hook-up with other talent in getting pages ready for print, We have a section set aside in the SPA Forum. We have developed a friendly atmosphere and simple guidelines for getting up and running in the system. We welcome casual observers, and have lots of projects looking for talent all the time. Go to: Mysterious Visions Community , join in conversation and enjoy!
If you have any questions, please feel free to write us at MVA@dimestoreproductions.com?subject=I have an MVA question Or mail your question in to: Dimestore Productions, P.O. Box 214, Madison, OH 44057

Submitting your Proposal
Criteria:
  • We're looking for work that is of high quality, that will stand up against anything else out there and be solidly entertaining.
  • It can be of any genre, with the only restriction being highly violent Gore, or highly sexually driven work. We're looking to keep a PG rating on things in the main title. We have a separate title, After Hours, for mature/horror strips. That project is run by Tomm Gabbard, and you need to submit works to him at the After Hours Forum section, separate of this effort.
  • You can submit comic strips, and poetry/art pages. Poetry/art pages must be COMPLETE pages, not just a poem sent in, we need you to format it how it is to look on the final printed page. We will not be looking for text stories. We can look at Pin-up pages on a "fill a blank page basis", but will not guarantee an issue or place in an issue for such. You would be notified if we use it. If you want to do a CONTINUED STORY in Mysterious Visions, over a number of issues, ALL PARTS of the story must be done, complete, and submitted, to be considered.
  • It must be formatted for printing at full size comic book size, B+W, grayscale is fine, bleeds are fine.
  • If sending by snail mail, end a copy only! We will not return anything that does not come in with a SASE with enough postage on it to actually return the work. It's much better if you send a copy that we can keep.
  • Make sure page numbers are on each page, as well as full contact information, in case pages get separated, so we can get them back together easily.
  • If you have a question about any of this, ask before sending anything. It's better to ask twice, send once, than for us to have to tell you your submission can't be accepted because it didn't have this or that.
  • Please remember, the SPA is a LEARNING/TEACHING organization, and if we reject your submission, we will likely tell you why and what you can do to improve and try again.
  • We will accept only work that has not appeared other places, but we are only using the American First Printing Rights, which means once it is printed, all rights to your strip return to you, and we would need your permission to reprint your work in any new form. We reserve the right to keep an issue available on POD level.
  • We will be looking for a low-res PDF or jpgs of the work for approval. Please talk to us before sending it.
  • Our e-mail address: MVA@dimestoreproductions.com

Upon approval, and your submitting of the finished files, a few things to remember:
  • We will want your pages as individual Tiff Files, numbered for what page of the strip they are, with a canvass size of 6.875x10.5 - whether you use bleeds or not, at 300 DPI, in both CMYK color (if possible) AND grayscale mode, on CD-R…or delivered electronically (Please no e-mail! Send tiffs via www.yousendit.com). Or, you put them somewhere that we can download them from, or arrange with us for FTP (An option under development, not available yet)
  • Please make sure your strip has a copyright notice in your name(s) on it somewhere in the strip itself, as in "Story, concepts and artwork © 2006 Johnny Comicguy" a good spot is just under the panels of the first page, or under the last page.
  • If you will want your CD-R returned, an SASE is required with enough postage on it to return a CD to you.
  • Our mailing address is: Dimestore Productions. P.O. Box 214, Madison, OH 44057.

Getting Copies
  • As a contributor to MVA you will receive one copy of the book per team that sends in a submission that is printed.
  • As a contributor, you and your team will be able to purchase additional copies of the book at 50% off cover price. You will also be responsible for shipping to get those copies to you. No purchase necessary. You are welcome to resell the copies you buy at shows and any for any other use you may have for them. Your help getting MVA into local retail stores is welcome, and we will gladly work with you to make it worth your while.
  • There is profit-sharing!!! If the issue you are in makes $$ at ANY time, through distribution, residual sales through the website if a strip suddenly becomes a "Hot Property" and people seek it out, whatever…every penny of the issue's journey to hopefully good profits is tracked, 90% of that profit goes back to the creators, and is divided up to each team based on how many pages of the issue they did. This $$ is automatically placed into the account of the strip's contact person, for payout on usual Dimestore Distro payout proceedures. You can read more about that HERE.
